The education of both boys and girls in one
institution. There has been a marked switch
away from single-sex education and in favour
of coeducation over the last 20 years in the
UK, although there is some evidence to
suggest that girls perform better in a
single-sex institution, particularly in maths
and science. In 1954, the USSR returned to
its earlier coeducational system, partly
abolished in 1944. In the USA, 90% of schools
and colleges are coeducational. In Islamic
countries, coeducation is discouraged beyond
the infant stage. In most countries
coeducatioon has become favored over
single-sex education, although there is some
evidence to suggest that girls perform better
in a single-sex institution, particularly in
math and science. In the US, 90% of schools
and colleges are coeducational. In 1954, the
USSR returned to its earlier coeducational
system, which was partly abolished in 1944.
In Islamic countries, coeducation is
discouraged beyond the infant stage on
religious principles.
